It’s easy to see why Algodon Mansion was awarded TripAdvisor’s Travelers Choice Award for the fifth year in a row. Intimate, romantic, charming and exclusive, a stay with this luxury boutique hotel is a peaceful oasis amongst the excitement and energy of world-class Buenos Aires.
Many tennis greats have been spotted frequenting the hotel, from Roger Federer, Andre Aggassi, Pete Sampras and Andy Roddick. This exclusive property is not reserved for tennis greats. It regularly hosts dignitaries, movie stars and others seeking understated luxury.
Algodon Mansion is a Relais & Chateaux property that certainly deserves its reputation, as the attention to detail is impeccable. With only 10 suites in the entire hotel, by design, each guest is meant to feel like the only guest.
Service is over the top at Algodon Mansion. Check-in was fast and effortless as I was seated at a classic antique desk and offered a welcome drink of my choice. To my delight, the staff knew my name before I even walked in the door and remained available to make any arrangements to facilitate my journey.
A private butler is assigned to each room so that the motto “your wish is my command” could be the slogan of Algodon Mansion. Don’t be shy to ask your personal butler to prepare your bath with just the right scents, oils, bubbles and salt, to do shoe shines or to accompany you on a shopping spree. During my spa treatment, my butler offered to accompany me just in case I had translation questions stemming from my poor command of the Spanish language. Now that’s service!
Built as a family home for a wealthy aristocratic family, in the early 1900s ownership changed hands and the home was used as the embassy of the Netherlands for almost 30 years. During the war, the embassy was abandoned and left to ruin. It was finally rediscovered with the vision of an exclusive boutique hotel for discriminating tastes. After an extensive four-year renovation, the property eventually opened its doors in 2010, with architecture inspired by French classic design, reflecting old-world elegance.
Algodon Mansion is located in Recoleta, a small tree-lined, old-money neighborhood, that is rightfully referred to as “the Paris of South America”. No doubt, Recoleta is Buenos Aires’ swankiest district and the neighborhood of choice for those who can afford it. It is an area of fine art galleries and fashionable boutiques and cafes. Close by, the lavish mausoleums at Recoleta Cemetery is a must see as the final resting place of former presidents, authors and the most famous person of all, Evita Peron. On weekends, the main square in Recoleta, Plaza Francia, transforms into a bustling outdoor handicrafts market, displaying the many talents of local artists.
The venue at Algodon Mansion has also become known for its exclusive private celebrations, as the entire mansion can be made available for an intimate, special occasion. This was the location of choice in Buenos Aires for Chanel haute couture, Porsche sports cars and Nespresso coffee, all of which had exclusive product launches and corporate events that were so unique, they could not be replicated at any other hotel in the world.
Complete your visit and pamper yourself with a treatment at Le Spa at Algodon Mansion, where the deep cleansing Zvit facial is a signature treatment, using a 100% natural product derived from grapes, offering a gentle microdermabrasion that renews and purifies the skin.
For a hotel with heart in Buenos Aires, it doesn’t get better than Algodon Mansion!
