The International Monetary Fund said it has decided to reopen an office in Argentina, 6 years after leaving. The decision came days after Buenos Aires reached a deal with the IMF on the money supply, interest rates and an exchange rate framework.

The main purpose will be to control the evolution of the deficit targets and zero monetary expansion, 2 of the points contained in the agreement signed by Argentina with the multilateral organization. The IMF has its own offices in around 70 countries, even in places where there is no financial agreement with the agency.

In his last visit, the representatives of the Fund that were in Argentina settled in the office that will soon be occupied by jamaican economist Trevor Alleyne, an official with 25 years of experience within the agency. He will disembark in Buenos Aires in November and his position will be "resident representative", the first point of contact between the IMF and the Argentine economic team. Alleyne has overseen IMF missions in countries such as Nigeria, Zambia, Jamaica, Peru, Venezuela and Ecuador.
